How to grow Selaginella to produce multiple heads

How to grow Selaginella to produce multiple heads

1. Soft lighting

Selaginella grows best in semi-shade and is very sensitive to light. If the light is too strong, it will easily burn the plant, but insufficient light will also cause it to develop poorly. You need to put it in a place with scattered light, or you can put a shading net in the sunny place.

2. Suitable temperature

Selaginella prefers a relatively warm environment, and the temperature should be kept at around 20℃. High temperatures can cause water to be lost quickly, causing the leaves to dry and curl up. Low temperatures can easily freeze the plants, or even kill them. The temperature in winter cannot be lower than 0℃, so you can put it indoors to keep warm. If the room temperature is not high enough, you can put a plastic bag on the top of the plant.

3. Water moderately

Selaginella is highly drought-resistant. Dryness can cause its leaves to dry and curl, but they will recover as long as they are watered. It is more afraid of waterlogging. If the soil in the pot is too moist or there is water accumulation, it will hinder the breathing of the roots and may also breed bacteria and cause it to become sick. Generally, wait until the surface soil is dry before watering. Water thoroughly to make the potting soil fully moist.

4. Supplemental fertilizer

Selaginella is very tolerant to poor soil quality, so it does not require much fertilizer. But if there are sufficient nutrients, it will be easier to sprout new shoots and grow into multiple heads. Generally, liquid fertilizer should be applied once every half a month, and a compound fertilizer with a relatively balanced content of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium should be used. The concentration of fertilizer should be low, otherwise it will burn the roots.
