Why doesn't the thornberry bloom?

Why doesn't the thornberry bloom?

First of all, we need to know that most of the plants sold on the market can bloom, but there are problems with maintenance after you buy them home, which leads to poor plant growth and affects flowering. So excluding factors related to the plant itself, what other reasons are there for Euphorbia milii not to bloom?

The reason why the tiger thorn plum does not bloom: light problem

Euphorbia milii prefers an environment with plenty of sunlight and needs to ensure sufficient sunlight all year round, otherwise it will easily lead to the phenomenon of only growing leaves but not blooming. If you keep the flowers in the shade for a long time, the branches and leaves will grow too long and become messy, and the leaf color will be very dull.

Therefore, if you want it to bloom, light is necessary, but sometimes the weather is cloudy and rainy, you can choose to use fluorescent lamps. Although they are not as good as sunlight, they still play a certain role!

The reason why the tiger thorn plum does not bloom: water and fertilizer problems

Euphorbia pilosa is drought-resistant, and the soil in the pot should be relatively dry. Flower lovers who do not understand its living habits will water it a lot, and the water will be absorbed by the leaves, causing the branches to grow too long. Another point is that the requirements for fertilizer are not strict, but the phosphorus and potassium fertilizers required for flowering are necessary. If there is a lack of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and too much nitrogen fertilizer, the plant will not bloom.

Therefore, before flowering, apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, control the fertility appropriately, and the flower will bloom naturally with sufficient nutrients!

The reason why the thorn plum does not bloom: pruning problems

The flowers of Euphorbia milii bloom at the tops of new branches. If you want it to bloom more, you must give it proper pruning to increase the number of new branches. Otherwise, the main branches will grow longer and longer, resulting in fewer branches, and fewer branches means fewer flowers. If the potted tiger thorn plant has only 1 to 2 branches, it will be difficult to make it bloom!

It is best to cut short the thin and uneven branches in June and July every year, so that two branches will grow at the cut. When the branches grow to 5 to 6 cm, they will bloom. Prune once a year, and after a few years the plant will be plump and symmetrical, covered with red flowers.
