Diseases and control methods of Araucaria

anthrax

It can occur at any time of the year, but is more common in hot and rainy seasons.

The spots spread from the leaf tips to the rhizomes. They are brown at first, then gradually expand and increase in number, and many dry black spots appear. In severe cases, the plant dies.

Prevention and treatment methods

If diseased leaves or plants are found, they should be cut off or removed and burned in time.

At the early stage of the disease, spray 700 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable powder or 600 times diluted 40% polysulfide suspension once every 7-10 days, and continue to prevent and control 3-4 times.

Leaf blight

Leaf blight usually starts in June and occurs mostly in warm and rainy years and seasons, harming the growth of Araucaria.

The pathogen survives the winter in the form of mycelium and conidiophores on diseased leaves and diseased remains, producing conidia that are spread by wind and rain and cause infection.

The affected small needles all turn gray-brown, and finally become gray-white and dry, with dense small black particles on them.

Prevention and treatment methods

When selecting plants, choose disease-free plants.

Pay attention to soil drainage and avoid over-planting.

You can spray 600 times diluted 40% polysulfide suspension, 600 times diluted 30% copper oxychloride suspension, 8000 times diluted 25% amylopectin emulsifiable concentrate, 8000 times diluted 40% flusilazole emulsifiable concentrate, 1500 times diluted 50% methylhydroxychloride aqueous solution, 1500 times diluted 69% anke mancozeb plus 75% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder, or 600 times diluted 65% doxorubicin wettable powder.

Pests of Araucaria and their control methods

Scale insects

Commonly known as "orchid lice", they reproduce fastest under conditions of high temperature, high humidity and poor air circulation.

It will suck the sap from the leaves of the Araucaria tree, causing the leaves to fall off, the plant to grow slowly, and in severe cases the plant to die.

Prevention and treatment methods

During the hatching period of scale insects, spray with 1% omethoate or 1500 times 50% malathion.

If you grow Araucaria at home and the number of scale insects is not large, you can manually brush them off.
