How to make poinsettia bloom, and what to do with it after it blooms

1. How to make poinsettia bloom

1. Control the temperature: It likes a warm environment and has poor cold resistance. If you want it to bloom, you should move it indoors after the temperature drops in autumn every year. The indoor temperature in winter should be kept between 15 and 20 degrees. The plant is in the stage of flower bud differentiation at this time. If the temperature is lower than 15 degrees, the flowers will develop poorly, affecting the later flowering.

2. Adequate fertilizer: It consumes more nutrients during flowering, so it is necessary to supplement it with fertilizer in time. During the growing and flowering seasons, decomposed liquid fertilizer should be applied every half a month. After autumn, compound fertilizer should be applied once a week for three or four times in a row. This management can promote the differentiation of flower buds and the color change of bracts.

3. Timely pruning: If diseased or weak branches are found during the growth stage, they should be cut off in time to reduce nutrient consumption. When the branches grow to 20-30 cm, they need to be shaped and bent to make the plant shorter and the flower heads more evenly distributed, which helps it bloom and improves its ornamental value.

2. How to deal with the flowers after they bloom

Poinsettia needs to be pruned after it finishes blooming, and the main branches and side branches should be shortened. If it is allowed to grow at this time, long branches will appear and the shape of the entire plant will be affected, thus losing its ornamental value. After pruning, place it in a dark place, avoid direct sunlight, and don't rush to water it. Be sure not to let the wound get wet. It will slowly recover with careful care over a period of time.
