How to grow carnations in water

How to grow carnations in water

1. Pruning

Growing it in water is the simplest and most successful method. It utilizes the flower's ability to regenerate. Cut a small part of the stem or branch and insert it into the water. Place it in a suitable area and let it take root and become a new flower. When pruning its branches, cut them short thirty-five millimeters below the nodes, and the cuts should be flat and free of cracks. Remove the leaves under the bottle mouth, and leave a certain distance between each flower to ensure smooth ventilation. Its growing period is from December of each year to February of the following year, and it only takes about thirty days to take root.

2. Watering

Before putting it in the bottle, wipe it clean and the water should cover half of the roots, leaving some roots exposed outside the water. If it is a newly planted flower, there will be many wounds on the roots and it will rot easily, so you need to change the water frequently and clean the bottle and flower roots. If it is hot, the amount of oxygen in the water will decrease, its breathing will be faster, and the oxygen will be used up quickly. You should change the water more frequently, preferably every day, until white roots grow in the water, then you can slowly reduce the number of times you add water. If 20 to 30 percent of the water in the bottle evaporates, you can add water, but don't add too much water. Some of the roots should be exposed above the water surface. If it is spring or autumn, the water should be renewed once every half a month. If it is winter, it should be renewed once every twenty days.

3. Add fertilizer

Because it is hydroponics, the added fertilizer will melt in the water. Once its proportion exceeds the needs of the flowers, it will have adverse effects. It is best to buy special nutrient solution, which is prepared in proportions according to the needs of the flowers and is very scientific.

4. Lighting

It prefers sunlight. If the seedlings have just grown or the flowers are in bloom, do not place it under strong light. At other times, you don't have to worry about strong light damaging it.

5. Temperature

It likes cool temperatures. If the temperature drops below 9°C in winter, its growth will stop. If the temperature rises above 35°C in summer, it will be injured. So you need to cool it down in the summer and wrap it with plastic film to keep it warm in the winter.
