Strawberry Management Plan in May

Strawberry Management Plan in May

Starting from May, the temperature has risen in many places. During the strawberry production period, seedling management becomes the core link, among which the management of runners and the prevention and control of diseases and pests are two key tasks. Let’s learn about the strawberry management plan in May.

1. Runner Management

(1) Promote the growth of runners

After the mother plant survives, spray it with gibberellin solution to promote the formation of runners. If the number of runners is insufficient, spray again after 7 to 10 days. At the same time, combine irrigation with the application of seedling-strengthening fertilizers, such as urea, and spray urea solution on the leaves to accelerate the growth of runners and seedlings.

(2) Directional compression

After the runners grow, they should be straightened in the appropriate direction and fixed with a small fork. At the same time, soil should be added on the seedling nodes to promote rooting.

(3) Plant management

Remove inflorescences, remove dead and diseased leaves, reduce the nutrient consumption of the mother plant, and promote the multiple and rapid growth of runners.

2. Pest and disease control

(1) Disease prevention and control

Focus on anthrax, snake eye disease, root rot and brown spot disease, use corresponding agents for spray prevention and control, pay attention to alternating the use of different agents to avoid drug resistance, and ensure comprehensive coverage of the pesticide.

(2) Pest control

For pests such as mole crickets , grubs , cutworms, thrips, aphids and whiteflies, choose appropriate pesticides for spraying or spreading to reduce the impact of pests on strawberry seedlings .

3. Other management measures

Water management: Follow the principle of "roots grow in drought, seedlings grow in water", control water moderately, promote the development of new roots, and avoid excessive irrigation.

Drainage: For flat land and depressions, the surface of the bed should be raised and ditches should be dug for drainage to prevent flooding from damaging the strawberry seedlings.

The above technical measures are recommended guidelines. When applied in practice, they should be appropriately adjusted in combination with local climate, soil conditions and characteristics of strawberry varieties to achieve the best seedling cultivation effect.
