Kale planting methods and precautions

Kale planting methods and precautions

1. Planting

Kale is usually propagated by sowing. Prepare fine-grained, loose and fertile soil, sow the kale seeds on the soil surface, cover with a thin layer of soil, just enough to cover the seeds, and water thoroughly after sowing.

2. Post-sowing maintenance

After sowing, the kale should be placed in an environment with diffuse light and the maintenance temperature should be maintained at 15-20℃. Water it in time when the soil surface turns white. The seeds will germinate in about a week. After germination, expose them to more sunlight and lower the temperature.

3. Transplanting

When the kale grows 4-5 true leaves, transplant it into small pots, planting one plant in one pot. Later, gradually replace it with a larger pot as the plant grows. Generally, the kale will be transplanted 2-3 times before it is established.

4. Seedling maintenance and precautions

1. Light: Kale likes sunshine, so it needs more sunlight during normal maintenance. The more light it gets, the more perfect the plant shape of the kale will be and the less it will grow tall.

2. Temperature: Kale likes coolness and is extremely cold-resistant. Low temperatures can prevent the plant from premature bolting and make the plant's leaf color more beautiful. Only kale that has been treated with low temperatures can form good heads.

3. Watering: Kale is particularly drought-resistant. It does not need to be taken care of when planted in the ground. When the soil in the pot is almost dry, water it thoroughly. When watering, avoid pouring water into the center of the leaves to prevent leaf rot.

4. Fertilization: Kale is particularly fond of fertilizer. Every time you transplant and repot, you should mix slow-release fertilizer into the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer. Apply fertilizer frequently during the growing season, and apply thin fertilizer frequently. You can use liquid fertilizer with a balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
