When is the best time to plant Chinese toon?

In recent years, many wild vegetables have become widely popular. They used to be everywhere in rural areas, but now some people have begun to plant them on a large scale. For example, Chinese toon is one of them. In recent years, Chinese toon "assassin" has often appeared in the news, and many friends have seen the prospects of Chinese toon cultivation. Let's learn together when is the best time to plant Chinese toon?

When is the best time to plant Chinese toon?

Spring is a suitable season for planting toon trees , especially in early spring in March, when the climatic conditions are very favorable for the growth of toon. However, the specific sowing time needs to be fine-tuned according to local climate characteristics to ensure the best growing environment. If you miss the planting opportunity in spring, autumn is also a viable option. The climate is relatively stable at this time and is also suitable for growing toon.

Key points for planting Chinese toon

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Before planting Chinese toon, the land should be deeply plowed and leveled, and 6,000 kg of decomposed farmyard manure should be applied per mu. If the soil is too heavy, add soil with a better texture to improve the soil structure.

2. Planting and gardening

The best time to plant Toona sinensis is autumn and spring. Autumn transplanting should be carried out after leaves fall and before soil freezes to avoid slow seedling establishment and frost damage caused by low temperatures. There is no specific time limit for spring planting, as long as it is done when the seedlings are in a dormant state. Planting density should be adjusted according to local climate and soil conditions to ensure proper field light and air permeability. The recommended row spacing is 50 cm, the plant spacing is 35-40 cm, and 3000-3200 plants are planted per acre. When transplanting, ensure that the roots spread naturally, compact the soil and water it promptly.

3. Dwarfing plastic surgery

Dwarfing and shaping technology is crucial to improving the yield and quality of Chinese toon. Common shaping methods include multi-head shape, broom shape and multi-layer shape.

Multi-headed shape: After planting, cut off the top of the main trunk to encourage the sprouting of multiple side branches at the bottom, forming a multi-headed tree shape, increasing the number of terminal buds and improving yield.

Broom shape: Remove the top when the seedling is 1 meter tall to promote the germination of side branches, and form a dwarf tree shape by wiping the top and collecting buds, but pay attention to ventilation issues.

Multi-layer shape: Remove the top branches when the seedlings are 2 meters tall to form multi-layer trunk branches, increase the degree of lignification and stabilize the yield.

4. Soil management

For densely cultivated toon plants, the soil needs to be deep dug after the leaves fall in autumn every year, with a depth of about 30-40 cm, and 4000-6000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer should be applied as base fertilizer.

5. Water and fertilizer management

Water the plants promptly after planting and again after 20 days. After that, water once every half a month to keep the soil moist. Apply urea or organic fertilizer in late April and early July. Apply nitrogen fertilizer heavily after August and control watering. Apply superphosphate in early September to enhance stress resistance.

Adult toon trees should be covered with plastic film at the end of February to increase the ground temperature, and watered thoroughly before germination. Apply fertilizer promptly after picking, mainly with quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer.

6. Harvest

Dwarfed toon trees are harvested by pinching. When the new shoots grow to 25 cm in spring, cut off 15 cm of the top, leaving 2-3 compound leaves. The same treatment is applied to the lateral buds after they germinate. It is usually harvested every 20 days, and can be harvested 3-4 times in spring. When picking, scissors should be used to avoid damaging the tree.

The above is an introduction to the planting time and key points of cultivation techniques of Chinese toon. In fact, the price of Chinese toon that is on the market in season is not that "explosive", but if you seize the Chinese toon that is on the market off-season, the economic benefits are also good.
