When is the best season to plant bougainvillea? When is the best month to plant bougainvillea?

The cultivation of Bougainvillea requires loose soil, strong air permeability, good drainage, rich in organic matter, and overall slightly acidic soil, such as loam or sandy loam, mixed with 12% organic fertilizer.

If you choose clay to grow bougainvillea, you can add an appropriate amount of granular matrix such as perlite to increase the air permeability of the soil.

Which month is the best for planting bougainvillea?

Bougainvillea is best cultivated in spring and autumn , because the temperature of about 20℃ is more suitable for the growth of Bougainvillea, and after cultivation, it is necessary to ensure that it has sufficient water and keep the soil slightly moist as much as possible.

If it is in a greenhouse , it can be cultivated all year round , because the temperature, moisture and other conditions in the greenhouse are more suitable, so the survival rate of cultivation throughout the year is higher.

Bougainvillea planting process

1. Scientific water management

That is, a combination of watering, water control, and heavy watering. In the early summer growing season, water once a day to ensure the growth of branches and leaves.

From June to July, control water 3 to 4 times according to different varieties. The degree of water control is to make the branches and leaves wilt slightly. At this time, spray water on the leaves 1 to 2 times a day, and water thoroughly after 2 to 3 days. Repeatedly controlling water several times or watering every other day can promote flower bud differentiation.

When buds appear on new shoots, water them once in the morning and evening, and spray water on the leaves 1 to 2 times. After October, water them appropriately depending on the dryness and wetness of the soil. After entering the room in winter, do not water until the soil is dry, and water thoroughly when you do.

2. Proper fertilization

Bougainvillea has many flowers and a long flowering period, which consumes a lot of nutrients. In addition, the pot soil is limited, so fertilizer must be added regularly. When repotting in spring, apply enough base fertilizer. Depending on the size of the flower pot, apply 10 to 15 grams of decomposed chicken manure or cake fertilizer per pot, and apply quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer after leaving the room.

During the vigorous growth period, apply decomposed cake fertilizer water every 7 days to accelerate the differentiation of flower buds. When flower buds appear in the leaf axils, you can apply more fertilizer and large fertilizer, mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizer.

In the summer flowering period, apply alum fertilizer water every 3 to 5 days, and spray 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate every 7 days. From August to October, more fertilizer and water should be applied, using fertilizer instead of water, and using alum fertilizer water or cake fertilizer water for watering.

3. The sunshine should be long and the light should be strong

Potted bougainvillea can bloom all year round as long as the light, temperature, water and fertilizer are met. With 10 to 12 hours of sunshine per day, strong light and good ventilation, the flowering period can reach 180 to 200 days. Among them, purple bougainvillea can bloom until the Spring Festival, and after being taken out of the house during the Qingming Festival, the flowers can bloom again on May Day.
