Asparagus is known as the "king of vegetables ". It is a very popular health vegetable in the spring and summer season. It has high nutritional value. It is usually sown in protected areas in the cold season and planted in the field after the last frost. Let’s learn about the method and time of growing asparagus seedlings. 1. Seedling raising location Choose loose, fertile, breathable loam or sandy loam as the seedling raising site. The ideal pH range is 6.0 to 6.7. Make sure the site has excellent drainage and irrigation, preferably in a sunny, sheltered and well-ventilated area. 2. Seedling raising time Usually in mid to early March, small greenhouses are used to grow seedlings. 3. Seedling cultivation method First, plow the land to a depth of about 25 centimeters, apply 3,300 to 5,000 kilograms of mature organic fertilizer and 50 kilograms of triple compound fertilizer per 667 square meters, mix them evenly and build a 10 to 15 meter long, 1.2 or 1.5 meter wide, and 20 centimeters high bed, ensure that the bed surface is flat and the soil is fine, and reserve drainage ditches for irrigation and drainage. In addition, you can also use the nutrient pot seedling method, using clean garden soil that has not been used to grow asparagus, fully decomposed organic fertilizer and an appropriate amount of superphosphate to prepare the nutrient soil. Before sowing, put the nutrient soil into a nutrient pot with a diameter of 7 to 10 cm and a height of 12 cm. 4. Seed soaking and germination Before soaking the seeds, wash them with water to remove the wax on the surface, and then soak the seeds in 50% carbendazim solution at a dilution of 250 to 300 times for 24 hours. Next, soak the seeds in warm water at 25 to 30 degrees Celsius for 2 to 3 days, changing the water 2 to 3 times a day. After soaking, wrap the seeds with wet gauze and keep them in an environment of 25 to 30 degrees Celsius to keep them moist and promote germination. Rinse the seeds with clean water twice a day. When about one-tenth of the seeds turn white, they can be sown. 5. Sowing method Before sowing, water the bed surface thoroughly to moisten it. After the water has penetrated, draw straight lines on the bed with a row spacing of 10 cm, and then sow the germinated seeds at the center of the intersection of the straight lines. 6. Insulation measures After sowing, cover with plastic film immediately to maintain the ground temperature at a depth of 5 cm at 25 to 30 degrees Celsius during the day and 15 to 18 degrees Celsius at night. When all the seedlings have emerged and the temperature in the bed exceeds 32 degrees Celsius, the film should be removed in time to harden the seedlings. In general, when buying asparagus, you should choose asparagus with unopened buds on the top, straight shape, moderate length, and a bottom diameter of about 1 cm. The skin should be shiny and smooth. After purchase, it is recommended to eat it on the same day or store it upright in water and then refrigerate to preserve freshness.
