Are crayfish easy to raise?

Crayfish are generally easy to raise because they are omnivorous, grow fast and have strong adaptability. Generally, rivers, lakes , reservoirs , rice fields and ponds can become crayfish's home.

What are the methods of breeding crayfish ?

1. Pond farming

Crayfish cultured in ponds have higher densities and greater yields, which can increase profits. However, ponds for raising lobsters usually require sufficient water resources, good water quality, convenient water inlet and outlet, a bank width of more than 1 meter, a slope of 1:3, an area of ​​3-8 acres, a rectangular shape, and a water depth of 1-2 meters. Newly excavated ponds and old ponds should have their bottoms leveled, silt removed and the ponds exposed to the sun, as appropriate, so that the bottom and walls of the ponds have good water retention properties.

2. Large-scale tidal flat aquaculture

It is suitable for large water bodies such as shallow lakes, grass lakes, swamps, wetlands and seasonal ditches. The breeding is carried out by stocking broodstock, and the stocking time is March-April. Purchase shrimp seeds or release broodstock from August to October, with a stocking capacity of about 40 jin per mu and a male-female ratio of 1.5:1. The fishing time is from May to June of the following year.

3. Rice-shrimp farming

Rice-shrimp farming means one season of shrimp and one season of rice. The ditch is mainly 6 meters wide and 80 centimeters deep, with a slope of 1:3, which is convenient for lobsters to dig holes. After the rice is harvested, water is applied to the fields in December to allow the rice straw to rot and the black water to be released. After repeating this cycle two or three times, grass is planted in fields 8 meters long and 6 meters wide, and then a year of breeding begins. Shrimp begin to come out around May of the following year, and after the shrimp come out, rice is planted again.

4. Crawfish in fish ponds

This model focuses on fish breeding. The stocking specification of shrimp fry is about 200 fish/kg, and the density is about 2500 fish/mu. The time is at the end of March or the beginning of April, and then summer fish fingerlings are released in June. The main species stocked are silver carp, bighead carp and crucian carp.

5. Crayfish farming in lotus ponds

Farming crayfish in lotus ponds is a new type of crayfish polyculture model. Putting crayfish in the lotus pond can enhance the air permeability of the lotus bottom mud and promote the growth of lotus roots. At the same time, the rotten roots and leaves of the underwater lotus roots can also provide bait for lobsters. However, it should be noted that all crayfish in the lotus fields must be caught as much as possible before May every year. Even after catching them, they need to be killed with drugs to avoid affecting the germination and growth of lotus roots.
