How to grow small-leaf begonia to make it bloom

Flowering time of Begonia

The small-leaf begonia mainly blooms around October in autumn. If the cultivation environment is suitable and the light is sufficient, it may bloom early and the flowering period will be relatively longer. If there is a lack of light and the temperature is low, the flowering time will be delayed and the flowering period will be shortened.

How to grow small leaf begonia and make it bloom

1. Soil

Small-leaf Begonia is suitable for planting in loose, fertile, humus-rich alkaline soil with a pH value not lower than 7. Some river sand can be mixed into the leaf mold to prepare its culture soil.

2. Lighting

The small-leaf begonia likes an environment with plenty of sunlight and is not shade-tolerant. It needs to be placed in a place with plenty of light. Except for the summer when the light is too strong and needs to be shaded, sufficient light can be provided in other seasons.

3. Moisture

The principle of watering the small-leaf begonia is to water it when the soil is dry. There is no need to water it when the soil in the pot is not completely dry. Wait until it is completely dry and then water it thoroughly until water flows out of the bottom holes. In addition, it is best not to water it on rainy days, and the accumulated water in the pot should be drained in time to keep the environment ventilated.

4. Fertilization

When planting small-leaf begonia, you can apply some organic fertilizer to provide it with nutrients. In autumn, apply organic fertilizer. After the flowers fade, you can apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once. In winter, when the temperature is lower, you should stop fertilizing. You can choose some special fertilizers for begonia for normal fertilization.
