How to propagate honeysuckle and when to take cuttings

How to propagate honeysuckle and when to take cuttings

1. Cutting time

It is mostly propagated by cuttings, which can be done all year round, but it is more recommended to do it in spring or autumn. This is the peak growing season, and rooting will be faster. Be careful to avoid the rainy season and do it when the weather is good.

2. Prepare the soil

The soil for cuttings should be loose and have good permeability. You can mix river sand, garden soil, leaf mold and an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer to meet the needs. It is best to put a layer of pebbles at the bottom of the pot before potting to improve water permeability and facilitate growth.

3. Processing of cuttings

Choose cuttings that are free of diseases and insect pests, and cut them into 10-15 cm long sections. After cutting, disinfect it first, then soak it in rooting powder for two hours, which can speed up the rooting process.

4. Inserting the seeds into the soil

Prepare the soil, process the cuttings and then insert them into the soil. When grafting, first poke a hole in the soil surface with chopsticks, then place the cutting in, and be careful to compact the soil. Be careful not to bury the strips too deep into the soil, leave a part of them outside. Also observe the dryness and wetness of the soil. If it is too dry, spray water to moisten it.

5. Maintenance after insertion

After completing the cuttings, pay attention to management and control the temperature, water and light. First place it in a semi-shaded and well-ventilated place. Don't rush to expose it to the sun. It will slowly take root in about a week, and then gradually increase the light. After about a month, you can apply a small amount of liquid fertilizer to promote growth.
