Ginkgo branch propagation technology, how does the ginkgo tree propagate

1. Division time

There is no fixed requirement for the time of dividing ginkgo. This plant has a strong adaptability and can grow healthily after division at any period. Generally speaking, it is done in spring when the temperature is relatively warm, which allows the seedlings to develop better.

2. Promote new tillers

Usually only trees around 15 years old will sprout tillers. For some trees that do not sprout tillers, certain methods can be used to encourage them to grow new tillers. First, ring the root sucker stems, which usually takes place in July and August. Then, add soil on top to cover the ringed wounds. It usually only takes one month for new roots to grow in the ringed areas.

3. Planting by division

For plants that have grown root suckers, they need to be cut open, separated from the mother plant, and then transplanted. Choose a place with good air circulation, sufficient light and high terrain, which will help the growth of the plant. After planting, water the plants appropriately, but not too much. The seedlings need some time to adapt to the new environment, and their ability to absorb water is not strong. Watering too much can easily affect root breathing.

4. Other reproduction

There are many ways to propagate ginkgo trees. In addition to division, there are three other methods: sowing, cuttings, and grafting. Sowing is usually done in spring, and the seeds need to be germinated first and then planted in the soil. Cuttings are divided into hard branch cuttings and soft branch cuttings. The bottom is dipped in rooting powder and inserted into the seedbed. After roots grow, they can be transplanted. Grafting propagation is relatively common, and can be done by cleft grafting, cut grafting, bark grafting or bud grafting.
