Should Dendrobium officinale be grown in water or soil? What kind of soil should be used to grow Dendrobium officinale?

1. Water or soil culture

Dendrobium officinale can be grown in water or soil. Both methods can keep it alive, but the soil used for growth is not ordinary soil. Water cultivation is more convenient and easy to operate. Dendrobium officinale has strong vitality and likes a moist growing environment, so it is easy to survive in water. You can prepare a transparent glass bottle, wash and disinfect it in advance, wash the selected plants, wash off the soil on the plants, cut off the old roots and soak them in a carbendazim solution for disinfection, then dry it and it can be hydroponically cultivated.

It is not troublesome to grow it in soil. During maintenance, you must pay attention to regular watering to ensure good water supply. The chance of disease and insect pests occurring in soil cultivation is higher, so disease and insect pests must be prevented and controlled.

2. What soil to use

The roots of Dendrobium officinale are not suitable for ordinary soil. Its roots are shallow aerial roots, and ordinary soil will make it difficult for the roots to breathe. When choosing a substrate, it must first be breathable, loose, well-drained, and acidic. You can use sphagnum moss, mushroom chaff, wood chaff, bark, peat, etc. After selecting the substrate, it cannot be used directly. It needs to be disinfected first. You can boil the substrate in boiling water, then take it out and dry it before use, or you can use chemicals to disinfect it.
