Is mint an annual herb? How many years can mint be grown?

1. Is it a first-year student?

Mint is not an annual plant, it is a perennial herb of the genus Mentha in the Lamiaceae family. This plant generally grows in mountain wetlands, with its rhizomes growing horizontally underground. It is more common below 2,100 meters above sea level, and occasionally grows at 3,500 meters above sea level. It is cultivated in many places in my country, among which Jiangsu and Anhui are the most common, and has very good edible value.

2. How many years can it be raised?

As long as you pay attention to the environment and maintenance methods, mint can basically be grown indefinitely. The roots of this plant can metabolize and replace old roots with new ones, so it can continue to grow. As long as there is no disease, pest or human damage, it will not wither and die.

3. How to raise

1. Soil: Mint does not have very high requirements for soil. As long as it is not too sticky or sandy, or the pH value is too high, it can basically grow normally. If you want it to grow well, you must ensure that the soil in the pot is loose and breathable, which is conducive to the development and breathing of the roots. In addition, broken tiles can be placed at the bottom of the pot to improve drainage.

2. Light: Mint is a long-day plant. It needs sufficient light to bloom. It also helps the production of peppermint oil and menthol. Therefore, it must be planted in a sunny place, and if it is a potted plant, it should be placed under the sun so that it can receive sunlight all day. If the environment is too dark, the plant will grow too tall and it will be difficult to bloom.

3. Watering: Mint needs a lot of water in the early stage of growth. Be sure to keep the soil moist. Generally, it needs to be watered once every 15 days so that it can grow quickly. In the later stage, watering should be reduced to prevent the plant from growing too fast, and controlling water will also help the plant bloom.

4. Fertilization: Mint does not have a very high demand for fertilizer. Generally, when planting and repotting, you need to apply enough base fertilizer at the bottom of the pot, so that there is no need for frequent topdressing during the growth period. If the plant grows poorly, you can spray some liquid fertilizer, but not too much, and control the concentration well.
