When to take cuttings of bougainvillea

When to take cuttings of bougainvillea

1. When to take cuttings

Bougainvillea is relatively easy to operate by cuttings, and the survival rate is relatively high, so there are not too many requirements for the time of cuttings. As long as the appropriate temperature and suitable growth environment are maintained, it can basically survive. However, if you want it to be successfully propagated by cuttings, you need to choose the most appropriate time. The favorable time for cuttings is February to April in spring, or around September to October in autumn. These two time periods are very favorable. The light, temperature and humidity in the environment are very suitable, and the growth is very vigorous, which can promote germination as soon as possible. The best of these two time periods is spring to avoid frostbite after winter.

2. Precautions

1. Avoid strong light: The sunlight in late spring and early autumn is relatively strong. If you are doing cuttings at this time, you must be careful not to operate under strong light. Although Bougainvillea likes sunlight during its growth and maintenance, it should not be exposed to strong light when it is first grafted and before it survives. If it is exposed to excessive sunlight, the moisture it contains will be lost, which will easily affect its survival in the later stage.

2. Select branches: Different branches are selected for cuttings at different times. In spring, you can choose annual semi-woody branches, in summer you can choose soft branches for cuttings, and in autumn, you can choose hard branches for cuttings.
