What rootstock should be used for grafting osmanthus

What rootstock should be used for grafting osmanthus

1. Ligustrum lucidum

Both Ligustrum lucidum and Osmanthus fragrans belong to the Oleaceae family and have good affinity. Grafting can accelerate the growth of Osmanthus fragrans. In order to avoid breakage at the grafting point, it is generally necessary to find a lower position. The interface should also be longer to make the fit between the two more secure. After the grafting is successful, do not rush to remove the ties. Wait until it sprouts in the second year.

2. Water wax

Waxwort and osmanthus are also plants of the Oleaceae family. Its root system is more developed, and the supply of water and nutrients is sufficient. Not only does the grafting have a high survival rate, but it also provides good drought resistance. However, due to the slight differences in the thickness of their branches, the overall shape may not be very beautiful.

3. Tassels

Compared with the above two, the tassel tree is more cold-resistant, so it is very suitable as a rootstock for grafting in the north. It can grow in saline-alkali land by itself and its planting requirements are relatively low. At the same time, it can also provide sufficient nutrients to make the osmanthus bloom more luxuriantly. Pay attention to fertilizing during the growing period to avoid the top being thin and the bottom being thick.

4. Holly

Ilex microphylla is not holly, but a plant of the genus Ligustrum in the family Oleaceae, which is similar to osmanthus. When grafting, the position should be chosen lower to avoid making the top thick and the bottom thin.
