How to grow water chestnuts

How to grow water chestnuts

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Water chestnut prefers a warmer environment and is not very cold-resistant. The normal temperature suitable for its growth is around 20 degrees, so it is best to control the temperature above 10 degrees to prevent frostbite.

2. Watering: Water chestnut generally grows in water, so make sure the water level is normal, otherwise the growth of the plant will be affected. You can observe the water level regularly, and if there is a water shortage, you need to water it in time.

3. Light: Water chestnut prefers a relatively warm environment and has high requirements for light. Full sun allows the flowers to bloom normally, but they do not grow well in the shade.

4. Fertilization: In order to make it grow stronger during the growth period, you can fertilize it once every half a month. Normally, there is no need to fertilize so frequently. It is sufficient to fertilize once every month. And be careful not to use too concentrated fertilizer to avoid burning the roots.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Sowing is often used for reproduction. It is usually carried out in April. The ambient temperature needs to be kept at around 15 degrees. Soaking in warm water before sowing will help germination. Division is usually done in spring and summer by dividing some of the runners and then replanting them. Each tuber needs to have a bud on it to help it grow better.

2. Pruning: Pruning is required from time to time. During the growth process, there may be some weeds or leggy branches and leaves growing around it. Proper pruning can control the plant shape.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Disease: Leaf blight will harm its normal growth, so it can be controlled by pruning or spraying some disinfectants.

2. Pests: Aphids are the main pests and can be prevented by spraying pesticides. At the same time, ventilation should also be done well.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is non-toxic and has good medicinal value.

2. Can it be raised at home?: Not suitable, because it needs full sunlight and is suitable for growing in water.
