Cultivation methods and precautions for newly bought gardenias

Gardenias are known for being easy to care for, but they can be particularly sensitive for a while after they are newly purchased. Correct care is essential at this stage to avoid rapid leaf drop, which could threaten the plant's survival. Let’s learn the cultivation methods and precautions for the newly purchased gardenias.

1. Pruning

Newly purchased gardenias need to be pruned to adapt to the new environment. During the seedling acclimatization period, transpiration should be reduced to retain moisture and nutrients in the main branches and roots. Cut off bad branches and keep half of the leaves to ensure the survival of the plant. It usually takes 15 to 20 days for the gardenia to regain its vitality.

2. Three Guarantees

During the seedling acclimatization period, ensure that the temperature, humidity and light intensity are appropriate. The temperature should be controlled between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius and can be gradually adjusted after 20 days. The humidity should be kept moderate, avoiding waterlogging and drought. The soil in the pot should feel slightly moist when you pinch it with your hand. The light intensity needs to imitate the light conditions at the place of purchase and can be gradually adjusted after 20 days.

3. Acid supplement

Gardenia is a plant that prefers an acidic environment. Since long-term planting may cause the acidity of the potting soil to decrease, diluted ferrous sulfate solution or white vinegar solution should be regularly watered to maintain a suitable acidic environment.

Following the above steps can effectively prevent the leaves of newly purchased gardenias from falling and ensure the healthy growth of the plants. If you have any other questions about breeding, please leave a message.
