To grow Clivia, you must learn these “3” propagation methods. You can grow 20 pots without spending any money!

To grow Clivia, you must learn these “3” propagation methods. You can grow 20 pots without spending any money!

1. Cutting method

Generally, the cutting method is the most common way to propagate plants and flowers. Similarly, we can use the leaves of Clivia for cuttings. For Clivia, this method of propagation by cuttings is best carried out in spring and autumn, so that the leaves will take root faster and grow more vigorously.

How to do it:

We trim off a few sturdier branches and leaves from the mother plant of Clivia, and then it is best to soak them in rooting water for a period of time, which can help it grow better and faster. After soaking, take it out and dry it, then prepare sandy soil with sufficient drainage and nutrition as the cutting medium. After inserting the leaves of Clivia into the soil, we water it thoroughly and place it in a ventilated place for maintenance. It will take about a month to grow roots.

2. Division method

Because Clivia grows very vigorously, we can divide it into several small seedlings when it grows side buds. In this way, when we change the soil or pots next year, we can directly transplant several Clivias into new pots to become new potted plants.

How to do it:

There are generally two ways to divide Clivia. One is to wait until the plant grows large enough, then trim the new seedlings, treat its roots and plant them in new potting soil. The second is to trim all the leaves above the soil of the Clivia that is not growing well, then disinfect and sterilize it to allow it to continue growing. In this way, small buds will grow from the incision, which can serve the purpose of division.

3. Seeding method

In fact, the sowing method should be considered as one of the more troublesome ways of propagating Clivia. We have to wait until the summer of next year for the Clivia to grow seeds, and then pick the seeds for planting. This method will grow relatively slowly and requires patience.

How to do it:

After we pick the Clivia seeds from the potted plants, we need to remove the seed shells first, then prepare the planting soil, and plant the seeds evenly in the soil with the buds facing down. This keeps the soil in the pot moist. The seeds will germinate in about half a month, and when the seeds grow small leaves, they can be transplanted separately into new potted plants.

I wonder if everyone has learned the three ways to propagate Clivia. If you want to grow Clivia in the future, you don’t have to buy it. You can grow it into multiple pots at home!
