How and when to plant grape hyacinth bulbs

How and when to plant grape hyacinth bulbs

1. Planting time

It likes a cool environment and cannot tolerate high temperatures. Therefore, planting should be avoided in summer and spring, and it is best to plant in autumn or winter. The specific time is between November and December. If planting in autumn, it cannot be too early, as the high temperature will affect growth. However, it also depends on the actual region. If it is in the north, it can be advanced appropriately, while in the south it should be a little later.

2. Planting Method

1. Prune old roots: Before planting, the old roots at the bottom of the bulb plate should be trimmed off so that the root plate will not absorb water. Be careful not to damage the root plate when pruning.

2. Soak the bulbs: After pruning, soak them in disinfectant for about one or two hours. After soaking, place it in a cool place to dry. Be careful not to expose it to the sun during the drying period.

3. Put it in the bottle mouth: After the bulb is soaked, place it on the mouth of a special container filled with water. Be careful not to use too much water and the root plate should not get wet. After processing, use newspaper to block out light and place in a dark place. Shade it for about half a month, and remember to change the water every five days. After its roots grow out, change the water every seven days and add appropriate amount of nutrient solution to the water to promote rooting.

4. Later maintenance: It will bloom about two months after planting. Pay attention to providing sufficient light in the later stage. Especially during the leaf growth period and the flowering period, it must be given at least two hours of light per day during the leaf growth period, and no less than four hours during the flowering period.
