How to prune potted roses (picture)

1. Early spring pruning

The first pruning should be done in early spring every year before the branches sprout. At this time, weak branches, duplicate branches and diseased branches should be cut off to reduce nutrient loss and facilitate the growth of new branches. In addition, it is best to turn the soil once and clear the weeds in the potting soil to allow the plants to grow better.

2. Pruning after flowering

After each flowering, the remaining flowers must be cut off in time. Leaving them will not only affect the appearance, but will also continue to consume nutrients. When pruning, in addition to the dead flowers, the two compound leaves below the flower should also be cut off to prevent it from sprouting weak branches, otherwise it will cause the flower to deform. Or you can cut off the flowers ten centimeters away from the roots and cut off the excess branches at the same time to save nutrients and allow new buds to sprout.

3. Side bud pruning

During the flowering period, you will find that some branches have multiple flower buds. Don't be reluctant at this time, but cut off the ones that are not growing well in time, leaving only the good ones. Only leave two or three new buds on each main branch, and cut off the rest. In addition, you should cut off the extra side buds, leaving only one main bud, to avoid unnecessary nutrient consumption.
