How to prepare soil for succulents?

Succulent soil requirements

The soil for succulents is generally required to be loose, well-drained, and contain an appropriate amount of humus. Neutral soil is preferred, but a few succulents, such as Sansevieria, Desert Rose, Senecio, Alocasia, and Haworthia, require slightly alkaline soil, while the Aizoaceae genus Anemone prefers alkaline soil.

How to prepare soil for succulent plants

1. Garden soil + peat soil + coarse sand + perlite

Most succulents prefer loose and fertile soil, which can be mixed with garden soil, peat soil, coarse sand and perlite in a ratio of 1:1:1:1. This mixed soil contains more humus and has better drainage, which is suitable for the growth of most succulents.

2. Coarse sand + vermiculite + granular soil + peat soil

A small number of succulents grow slowly and have fleshy roots. They are not tolerant to waterlogging and do not require much humus, but do require good air permeability and drainage. Therefore, coarse sand, vermiculite, granular soil and peat soil can be mixed in a ratio of 6:1:2:1.

How to change the soil for succulent plants

1. Time

There is a time to repot succulents. Avoid repotting in winter and summer because the plants are not very active and in poor condition at this time. If the temperature is too high in summer, the plants will go dormant. If the temperature is too low in winter, the plants will be frostbitten. Therefore, the suitable time to repot and change soil is in spring and autumn.

2. Steps

First, separate the succulents from the potting soil, shake off the soil at the roots, trim the roots that are not growing well, apply disinfectant to the cut, place it in a cool place to dry for a while, plant it in new soil after the wound is dry, and place it in a cool place for two or three days. After it has recovered, you can maintain it normally.
