How to prune wintersweet to make it bloom more (with pictures)

1. Pruning branches

It has a very strong branching ability, and timely and appropriate pruning can sprout more flower buds and make more flowers bloom. The best time to prune is after each flower fades and before new leaves grow. Cut off all the overgrown, dead and diseased branches. Usually, only two or three buds are left on the new branches. This will reduce nutrient consumption, allow more flower buds to sprout, and make existing branches stronger.

2. Timely pinching

After the flowers fade, in addition to pruning the branches, you should also pinch off the tips in time. Observe frequently and pinch off the branches once you find leaves growing on them. This will not only make the plant shape more beautiful, but also grow new flower branches and result in more flowers blooming. In addition, please note that you should not prune or pinch the plants after July. The pruning time is usually between March and June, otherwise it will affect growth and flowering.
