Australian Dendrobium is easy to grow. It likes a cool environment and grows epiphytically on rocks in the wild. It has a strong adaptability to the environment and can bloom without much care. Its flowers are pink and dark purple, and its flowering period is long. It has a high ornamental value as a potted plant. Cultivation method of Australian Dendrobium1. Soil The cultivation medium of Australian Dendrobium should be loose, breathable and well-drained. Only such soil can promote the vigorous growth of the plant. A mixture of leaf mold, coarse sand and garden soil can be used, and planting materials such as bark and sphagnum moss can also be added. 2. Temperature Australian Dendrobium likes a cool environment and is relatively cold-resistant. It can withstand short-term temperatures as low as -2°C. The night temperature in winter must reach 13 to 16°C. It blooms from February to April, so the temperature should be kept at around 8°C for 3 to 4 weeks during the winter bud formation period. Therefore, good warming measures must be taken in winter. 3. Lighting Australian Dendrobium is not tolerant to strong light and prefers sufficient diffuse light. The sunshine time should be more than 8 hours. The light time required during the growth period is longer. Appropriate shade should be provided in the summer, and prolonged direct sunlight should be avoided. 4. Water and fertilizer Australian Dendrobium cannot tolerate waterlogging. It is generally watered according to the dryness of the potting soil. During the growing period, it is generally watered once every 7 to 30 days. The amount of watering is usually increased during the flowering period. Australian Dendrobium does not require much fertilizer. During the growing period, it can be sprayed with a diluted solution of Huabao once every half a month. Granular slow-release fertilizer can also be used. Fertilization should be stopped during the winter dormancy period. Precautions for the care of Australian DendrobiumThe potting soil of Australian Dendrobium needs to be changed every 1-2 years, mainly to provide more growth space and sufficient nutrients. The newly used planting substrate should be similar to the previous one, so that the plant can quickly adapt to the new potting soil environment. Repotting should be done after the spring flowering period. Do not damage the roots when repotting. Do not water immediately after repotting. Put it in a cool and ventilated place and spray it. Water it after 30 days. If the plant needs to be repotted due to root rot, first soak the roots in potassium permanganate solution. After drying it slightly, spray the roots with carbendazim solution and then put it in the pot. Do not water it after repotting. |
