Pear tree grafting method

Pear tree grafting method

After grafting, pear trees grow faster and bloom and bear fruit earlier. There are many types of rootstocks available for grafting, and the commonly used ones are Pyrus dahliae, Pyrus benevolens, Pyrus sanderiana, etc. It can also optimize production and increase yields.

Pear tree grafting time

The best time to graft pear trees is in spring. At this time, the temperature rises and the cambium is more active. The wounds after grafting can heal faster and the survival rate will be greatly improved.

Pear tree grafting technology

There are two main methods of grafting pear trees: bud grafting and branch grafting. Branch grafting is more suitable for early spring, for example, bark grafting, while bud grafting is more suitable for use when the branches and leaves of the pear tree are relatively full that year, for example, bud grafting, and both have better survival effects.

1. Cleft grafting

When grafting, first cut the rootstock at the grafting site, then cut the scion. Choose one with 2-4 bud tips. Then, depending on the thickness of the rootstock, insert 1-2 scion, and finally wrap it with plastic strips.

2. Bud grafting

Bud grafting is usually performed in autumn. First, select a smooth and scar-free area on the rootstock, cut a T-shaped incision, and then cut the bud on the scion. When inserting the bud, first pick open the T-shaped interface, gently insert the bud from top to bottom, and finally tie it with a plastic strip.

3. Plug-in connection

At the grafting site, choose a smooth rootstock and flatten the wound surface with a knife. Then select a scion with 2-4 buds. Then insert the cut scion into the rootstock, but be careful to leave appropriate white space. Finally, tie it tightly with plastic strips.
