How to fertilize, water and change the soil of azalea

1. Fertilization

Rhododendrons are usually fertilized in spring and autumn. Temperatures that are too high or too low will cause the plant to enter a semi-dormant state, which is not conducive to the absorption of fertilizer. During the spring growing season, use dilute cake fertilizer water to fertilize, and you can add phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to be more conducive to flowering. Nitrogen fertilizer should be added once after the flowers fall in autumn, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be added during the flower bud differentiation period to help flowering in the second year.

2. Watering

Watering should be adjusted according to the time. During the growing season, water it sufficiently and keep the soil in the pot moist, which is more suitable for its growth. During the flowering period, control watering to avoid flooding the roots. Resume watering after flowering to replenish the water consumed by flowering. In winter, water less often, once a week, and keep the plant slightly dry. If the water is alkaline, you need to add white vinegar or ferrous sulfate to treat it. At the same time, the water temperature should not be too low, it needs to be close to room temperature.

3. Change the soil

The soil of azaleas is usually changed in spring. Before changing the soil, control the water to make it easier to separate the plant and the pot. After removing it from the pot, remove some of the old soil and then plant it in a new pot. You need to find a new pot that is of suitable size, and put tiles on the bottom to increase drainage. You can also add a little cake fertilizer as base fertilizer. After planting, fill the soil, compact it and water it thoroughly. Wait for about half a month to a month to acclimate to the pot, and then you can carry out normal maintenance.
