Can hyacinths survive the winter outdoors? How to grow hyacinths in winter

1. Can it overwinter outdoors?

Hyacinth is a relatively cold-resistant flower plant. In the southern region, because the outdoor temperature is relatively high, it can overwinter outdoors. However, this only applies to hyacinths grown in soil. For hyacinths grown in water, there are problems as the water may freeze and frostbite the bulbs. In northern regions, although hyacinths can withstand short-term frost, it is best to move them indoors, which is safer. However, there are heating equipment in the north, and excessively high temperatures in the growing environment will also interfere with growth. They can be placed on the balcony, which can ensure a good temperature and sunlight.

2. How to keep it in winter

1. Sunlight: The intensity of sunlight in winter is lower, so it can be placed in a bright place indoors to fully receive sunlight to meet its growth needs.

2. Reduce water: Hyacinths grown in soil should be watered less in winter. Generally, water them when the soil in the pot is dry. Do not water them too much and cause water accumulation, otherwise it will cause root rot. For hydroponic hyacinths grown indoors, the interval between water changes can be lengthened to once every half a month. Avoid damaging the young roots when changing the water.

3. Maintain the temperature: For soil cultivation, the temperature can be kept at around 5-10 degrees Celsius, and for hydroponics it needs to be kept at around 10-15 degrees Celsius.
