How many days does watermelon grow?

The growth process of watermelon is divided into four stages: germination, seedling, vine extension and fruiting. The survival rate of watermelon planted in early autumn is the highest. It tastes very sweet and the requirements for fertilizer and disease control are not high.

Watermelon growing season

The growing period of watermelon is about 150-200 days. There are many varieties of watermelon, and the planting time is different, and the maturity time is also different. Generally speaking, if it is planted in mid-March, it will mature in early July.

Late-maturing varieties are sown in mid-April and can be harvested in August, while those sown in late June will not mature until September or October in the autumn.

Watermelon Growing Conditions

1. Temperature: Watermelon is native to tropical Africa. It prefers a hot and dry climate and is not cold-resistant. The minimum temperature for seed germination is 15°C, and the suitable temperature is 28-30°C. As the temperature rises, the speed of seed germination gradually increases.

2. Water: Watermelon is a drought-resistant crop, but it also requires a lot of water. A watermelon plant consumes about 2,000 liters of water during its entire growing period, and watermelon is extremely intolerant to waterlogging. Once flooded, it is very easy to suffocate and die.

3. Light: Watermelon is a light-loving crop that requires sufficient sunshine time and light intensity. The number of female flowers increases under short days and higher temperatures, while the occurrence of female flowers will be inhibited under long days and high temperatures.

Watermelon growing season management

During the growth period of watermelon, it is necessary to strengthen the management of fertilizer and water. Its fertilizer requirements are generally nitrogen and potassium fertilizers for stems and leaves, and potassium fertilizers for fruits. Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are required for carbohydrates. In addition, attention should be paid to pests and diseases.
