Can the frostbitten Tangyin be cured (Can the succulent Tangyin recover from frostbitten Tangyin)

Reasons why the leaves of Tangyin droop and become soft in winter

Today a succulent friend asked Elder Tang: The leaves on the outside of the succulent plant Tangyin are drooping. Is it a little cold? Can it recover?

Tangyin is a summer succulent variety that is heat-resistant and frost-resistant, so it is not difficult to maintain in summer. In winter, we need to be a little careful, otherwise frostbite may occur if we are not careful.

Especially if the leaves of the Tangyin plant have not turned completely red before, succulent lovers who like to pursue perfection should be extra careful.

Because the Tangyin can only withstand a low temperature of about 3°C in an open-air environment, and the soil in the pot is kept dry. If the temperature is lower, its leaves may be frostbitten at any time. So, what should I do if the Tangyin is frostbitten?

⑴ Low temperature frostbite:

After winter, if the local daytime ambient temperature is already below 5°C, then in addition to watering sparingly and keeping the potting soil dry, you should also pay attention to nighttime frost prevention. Compared with obvious rain and snow weather, low temperatures and frost at night are more likely to freeze succulents.

Especially for varieties with thin leaves such as Master, Tang Seal, Jade Butterfly, Mountain Rose, and Jade Leaf, the leaves will indeed droop and become soft after being frostbitten by low temperatures.

Solution:

After the Tangyin is frostbitten, you can only avoid direct sunlight and move it to a warm environment of about 10℃ to allow it to recover naturally. As long as the heart of the leaves is not frozen, there will be no big problem. The frostbitten leaves will naturally dry up and fall off or be slowly consumed during the later growth.

If you think it is unsightly, you can wait until the weather warms up in spring and then cut off the head.

⑵Water imbalance:

In winter, the growth of succulents is slow or even stagnant, so watering should be controlled. If the water is too humid, the roots will rot easily, and if there is no watering for a long time, the leaves will easily become dehydrated.

In winter, many flower lovers tend to not water their plants at all for fear of fading, excessive growth or frostbite. However, thin-leaved succulents are not as drought-resistant as thick-leaved succulents. Under long-term drought and water shortage conditions, the leaves will droop due to dehydration.

Especially in the northern indoor environment with heating, not only is the air very dry but the ambient temperature can reach around 18°C, Tangyin can still grow normally and should still be given basic survival water.

Solution:

As long as the ambient temperature is not lower than 5℃ in winter, succulents will not be frostbitten.

Although they are already in a semi-dormant or growth-stagnant state, they can still be watered moderately when the soil in the pot is dry and the leaves appear slightly wrinkled. Just make sure to maintain good ventilation after watering and avoid water accumulation in the pot.
