How long is the growth cycle of grapefruit?

Introduction to grapefruit growth

Pomelo grows best in loose, fertile, organic-rich soil. It is mainly distributed in areas south of the Yangtze River, with the northernmost area being Xinyang and Nanyang in Henan Province. It is also grown in Southeast Asian countries.

Grapefruit growth cycle

Pomelo has a wide adaptability to soil, but it prefers soil with good permeability, looseness, fertility and good drainage. The air humidity needs to be around 75% during the growth period. It likes plenty of sunlight, is relatively shade-tolerant, and avoids strong light exposure.

It takes 8-10 years for pomelo to bear fruit from planting. If it is a grafted tree, it will bear fruit in 4-5 years.

Grapefruit growth rate

Pomelo grows slowly and is usually planted in autumn or early spring. The shoots sprout in February, the growth rate accelerates, and then it enters the flowering and fruit-bearing period. The fruit matures from early October to mid-November.

Grapefruit growth cycle management

If properly maintained, the yield of grapefruit per mu can be around 10,000 jin.

Temperature management: Pomelo trees have strong adaptability to temperature. The annual average temperature needs to be between 16.6 and 21.3 degrees. When the soil temperature is between 12 and 13 degrees, the roots begin to grow. The growth rate is accelerated at 23-30 degrees. When the temperature is below 7 degrees and above 37 degrees, the roots grow slowly or stop growing.

Fertilization management: Base fertilizer can be applied when planting grapefruit, and then in August-September after harvesting, apply base fertilizer mainly composed of farmyard manure, compound fertilizer, and dry fertilizer. Apply quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer when sprouting in February, and fruit-enhancing fertilizer in early June, mainly fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium.
