How to make orchid leaves shiny and lush (how to maintain orchid leaves to make them green and shiny)

When orchids are not in bloom, they are mainly for viewing. If the leaves are well maintained and green, shiny and elegant, the ornamental value is no less than when they are in bloom. However, the leaves of some flower lovers always look yellow and not shiny and green enough.

Now is the time to take good care of orchid leaves. Pay attention to 3 small details. The leaves will be dark green, glossy and shiny, and their beauty will not be affected by the flowering period.

First, soil:

"To grow orchids, you must first grow their roots, and the key is to grow the root material." The quality of the orchid's root system directly affects the growth of the leaves. The requirements for the use of the planting material are loose and breathable, not compacted or waterlogged, and slightly acidic and lightly fertile.

It is recommended that you use pine bark + red jade soil + pine needle soil, mix them in one third each, and then add one tenth of perlite. This kind of planting material is one of the best planting materials for growing orchids.

Second point, lighting:

Orchids actually like sunlight, but are slightly shade-tolerant. In addition, they are afraid of strong light, so they are considered to be light-resistant plants.

As long as the temperature is not higher than 28 degrees Celsius, orchids can be maintained in a well-lit location. However, at high temperatures, water evaporates quickly, and the water absorption and evaporation of orchid roots cannot reach a balance, so shade is needed when the temperature is high.

Adequate light can allow orchids to photosynthesize better, and photosynthesis is a necessary process for the production of chlorophyll.

When the temperature is suitable, give the orchid more light to form chlorophyll, which directly affects the health of the leaves. The leaves need more chlorophyll to be green and shiny.

Third point, fertilization:

Whether the orchid is healthy can be checked on the leaves. If the leaves are short, yellow, and thin, it means that the orchid lacks nitrogen fertilizer.

"Nitrogen fertilizer" is mainly used to promote leaf growth, so when orchids are not blooming, fertilization can be supplemented with nitrogen fertilizer. Of course, this is when "nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium" are not lacking. Only by nitrogen fertilizer can the leaves be upright and green.

Fourth, watering and humidity:

Orchids require relatively high humidity for growth, and the humidity should be above 65%. If the humidity is not enough, the leaves of orchids will be astringent and the edges of the leaves will not unfold.

When maintaining the plant, "if humidity is not enough, spray it." You can spray the plant once in the morning and evening. When the temperature is high and dry, spray the plant 3 to 5 times a day.

If you water orchids too much, the roots will rot and the leaves will turn yellow. If you don't water enough, the roots will wither and the leaves will turn yellow. The watering method is generally based on the dryness and wetness of the planting material. Do not water if it is not dry, and water thoroughly if it is. However, you need to master it flexibly. You can water less in spring and winter, and more in summer and autumn.

If you use tap water for watering, it is best to place the container for about 3 days before watering. Neutral water can also cause an uncomfortable root environment, leading to yellow leaves and root rot.
