How to judge the dryness and wetness of Clivia and water it (how to water it when the soil in the pot is dry on the top and wet on the bottom)

How to identify whether the pot of Clivia is dry or wet

The moisture content of the soil in the Clivia pot is different. It is usually dry on the top and wet on the bottom. When the surface of the potting soil is very dry, the center of the potting soil is moist, and the lower part to the bottom is moist.

Therefore, accurately judging the dryness and wetness of the soil in the Clivia pot is the prerequisite for determining whether to water it. Judging the dryness and wetness of the soil in the Clivia pot can be expressed in one sentence: one look, two knock, and three weigh.

First, the soil-locking method:

Use your fingers to dig into the shallow soil of the Clivia to a depth of about 3 centimeters. If the shallow soil is dry, the flowerpot is in a semi-dry state. If there is still a lot of moisture, you can clearly feel it with your fingers, which proves that the soil in the flowerpot is still very moist.

Based on the situation of each soil removal, the time for each watering can be calculated.

Second, soil preparation method:

When preparing the soil for planting Clivia, we can use more materials with good water filtration, such as volcanic rocks. Then, bury several large particles of volcanic rocks shallowly on the surface of the soil, according to the fact that the volcanic rocks are dark in color when wet and light in color when dry.

Before each watering, dig out the volcanic rocks and judge the watering time according to the color.

Third, the method of knocking the basin:

When judging whether the soil of Clivia is dry or wet, use a small stone to gently tap the wall of the Clivia pot, approximately in the middle of the total height.

If the sound is crisp, the soil is relatively dry; if the sound is deep, the moisture in the soil is relatively high.

The above method is only a method to determine whether the soil is dry or wet, but to actually master the watering time for Clivia, you must also adjust the time for the soil of Clivia to alternate between dry and wet according to the environment and season, and flexibly set different time intervals.

1. In spring and winter, if the soil in the flower pot is crisp when tapped or semi-dry, the watering time should be extended to about 5 days. The air humidity in spring is high and the flower soil is not easy to dry. In winter, Clivia needs less water for dormancy.

2. In summer and autumn, when the topsoil of the flowerpot is dry, you can water the Clivia in the evening of the same day . In summer and autumn, watering must be done after the soil cools down in the evening. In high temperature and dryness, spray water 2 to 3 times a day .
