How to water the Kalanchoe after cuttings

(1) Let’s look at cuttings first:

1. When you trim the remaining flowers after the flowering period of Kalanchoe, you can do cuttings, usually during the Qingming Festival or the Mid-Autumn Festival. Cuttings can be done as long as the temperature in spring and autumn is between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius.

2. Trim the pruned Kalanchoe branches to a length of about 10 cm, retain a pair of leaves at the top, and remove all the buds below. Use a utility knife to trim the wound to make it smooth and free of burrs.

3. Dry the pruning wounds of the Kalanchoe in a cool and ventilated place until the wounds are dry, slightly shrunken, and have curled edges.

4. Plant the Kalanchoe in a mixture of 1/3 river sand, 1/3 vermiculite, and 1/3 coconut bran. The planting depth should be about 2 cm, or until the plant can stand firmly.

Place the grafted Kalanchoe in a bright light location for about a week, then move the pot to a location with 3 hours of light in the morning or evening, avoiding strong light at noon.

Spring cuttings will take root in about 20 days, and autumn cuttings will take root in about 15 days.

(2) Watering method for cutting Kalanchoe:

1. Keep the planting material slightly moist during cuttings. Spray the leaves and the surface soil again after cuttings, and water thoroughly on the third day. Because there is no root system to absorb water when cuttings are just cut, it is mainly artificially moisturized, and the flower soil can be dry.

2. For Kalanchoe that has grown through cuttings, water it based on the dryness of the shallow surface soil, about 3 centimeters deep, and make sure to "not water if it's not dry, and water thoroughly if it is."

3. For the Kalanchoe cuttings taken in spring, watering should be on the dry side and try to avoid rain to prevent excessive growth and bacterial infection.

4. For the Kalanchoe cuttings taken in autumn, be careful not to water it in high temperatures. Water it after the evening. In addition to daily watering, you can use spray, spray once in the morning and evening.

When Kalanchoe is planted by cuttings, there is no root system to absorb water, so just keep the soil slightly moist.

After the cuttings are established, the root system's ability to absorb water is not very obvious. Just keep the watering method of "don't water unless it's dry, and water thoroughly when it's dry". Avoid rain in spring and avoid exposure to the sun in autumn. If you use tap water for watering, you can let the tap water dry for a few days before watering.
