How to quickly thicken bonsai branches (how to make the branches and trunks of potted plants thicker)

The trunks of many plants and flowers are too thin, so the leaves of the plants grow vigorously and easily break, which also affects their ornamental value.

In order to protect the branches and coordinate the proportion of the branches when caring for the plants, it is necessary to deliberately thicken the trunk and branches. To thicken the branches of the plants, you can follow the following methods:

First, choose branches:

The growth of branches is inseparable from the consumption of nutrients. If there are too many branches, the nutrient output of the root system and the consumption of branch growth cannot be balanced, and the growth of branches will become slow.

In daily maintenance, it is necessary to appropriately remove branches. Prune branches that are not needed to reduce nutrient consumption. Concentrate nutrient supply on the branches that are retained.

Second, balance the top growth advantage:

As plants grow, they will concentrate nutrients toward the top, so the plants will continue to grow upwards and the growth of the trunk will slow down.

This is what we call the apical growth advantage. If you want the bottom of the plant to grow quickly, you have to cut off the top branches. Stopping the top branches from growing will allow the lower branches to get more nutrients and grow quickly.

Third, balance the supply of nutrients:

Plant growth is inseparable from fertilization, which can promote the growth of branches, leaves and roots. Only with sufficient nutrients can the plants grow thicker quickly.

It is recommended to balance nutrients when applying fertilizer. Let "nitrogen" promote the growth of branches and leaves, and let "phosphorus and potassium" promote the growth of roots. Balanced nutrients can complement each other.

The well-developed root system has a greater ability to absorb nutrients, and the lush branches and leaves have an improved photosynthesis capacity. The improved absorption capacity of the roots and the digestion capacity of the branches and leaves can make the branches grow thicker quickly.

Fourth, control the lighting:

Plants have different requirements for light. First of all, you need to understand the habits of the plants and properly control the light, which can allow the branches and leaves to grow taller and quickly make the branches thicker.

For example: When we are caring for bougainvillea, if we place it in a more secluded location, the amount of flowering will be reduced, but the growth rate of the branches will be faster.

Fifth, control flowering and fruiting:

Many plants that can bloom and bear fruit consume a lot of nutrients during their reproductive growth.

During the reproductive growth stage, properly combing the number of flowers and fruits can reduce nutrient consumption, allowing the straight stems to absorb more nutrients and enter continuous nutritional growth, thus achieving the goal of rapid thickening of branches.

Sixth: Covering the pot and stealing roots:

Bonsai plants are limited in how little soil they are planted in, resulting in insufficient nutrient output and the inability of their roots to expand in the small pots.

Then we can use the potting method, mix fertile soil suitable for plant growth and put it into the large pot.

Then place the bonsai plant's pot on the large pot and let the roots of the bonsai plant grow into the large pot. This way, the roots can extend unrestricted and spread over a larger area to absorb nutrients from the large pot.
