How to grow cucumber seedlings

Every time I plant cucumbers, I always raise my own seedlings, and I always feel that the seedlings I raise are guaranteed. Last time I saw a person selling vegetable seedlings, but they were very thin and tall. I wonder if such seedlings can survive?

I think those with thick stems and green leaves that do not droop are more likely to survive. No matter how many seeds you plant, the quality of the seedlings will directly affect their future growth and the quality of the fruits.

1. Choose the seed

Whether you buy seeds or keep them for yourself, open them and check whether there are any signs of mold on the surface of the seeds. Pick out the incomplete and underfilled ones.

2. Disinfection and Seed Soaking

The surface of cucumber seeds carries pathogens such as anthracnose and damping-off. First, put the seeds in highly warm water of 50 to 60 degrees for 15 minutes, stirring slowly in the middle, take them out and put them in cold water to wash and cool, and finally soak them in clean water for 8 hours.

3. Germination

Place the soaked cucumber seeds on a cloth in a dark location, water them twice a day, and you can sow and grow seedlings after 2 days.

4. Seeding and Seedling Raising

The seedling soil can be homemade soil or nutrient soil. Choose loose, breathable soil rich in organic matter. Disinfect it two days before seedling cultivation, and then divide it into seedling trays for use in seedling cultivation.

Use sterilized tools to place cucumber seeds into the soil to a depth of about 5 cm. Keep the surface moist and they will sprout in about a week.

5. Transplanting and Planting

Cucumber seedlings can be transplanted when they grow three true leaves. Transplanting should be done early or late in the summer to prevent damage to the root system caused by high soil temperature, which can easily cause diseases and otherwise all the efforts will be wasted.

When transplanting, keep the spacing between plants at 20 cm and the row spacing at 80 cm. Water the plants again after transplanting to establish roots. Avoid exposure to the sun before the seedlings have grown. Take shading measures. After 3 days, almost all the seedlings have grown. Then gradually increase the light.
