How to prune jasmine

How to prune jasmine

When growing jasmine, in order to keep it blooming from early summer to late autumn and to spread its fragrance, it needs to be pruned. At this time, we need to choose the appropriate pruning time and the correct pruning method. Maintaining a good plant shape is more conducive to the flowering of jasmine.

How to prune jasmine

1. Pruning time:

There are two times for pruning jasmine. One is during the growing season in early spring, when the main task is to remove some overcrowded branches and older leaves. Branches with diseases and insects also need to be pruned. The other is during the withering season in autumn, when the main task is to prune away some of the remaining flowers and branches on the plant. At the same time, be careful not to prune too much.

2. Pruning method:

For jasmine, the method of pruning and pinching should be adopted to make it produce more buds and strong branches. Blind branches (non-flowering branches), weak branches, diseased and insect-infested branches should be cut off at any time to facilitate ventilation and light transmission. After each flowering, the overcrowded branches should be cut off in time, and the thick and strong branches should be retained, so as to achieve the purpose of growing new branches, more buds, and more flowers.

Jasmine pruning precautions

1. Jasmine should not be pruned too heavily. Appropriate pruning should be done while retaining the original plant shape. If all branches are cut off at one time, it is easy to stagnate the growth and cause stunted seedlings.

2. Jasmine likes a growing environment with strong sunlight, good ventilation and light, and high temperature. Therefore, you can improve the ventilation and light conditions by pruning blind branches, dense branches, and overgrown branches to help its growth.
