The correct way to water bougainvillea during its flowering period (how to water to extend the flowering period of bougainvillea)

How to water bougainvillea when it buds

Bougainvillea can bloom 3 to 4 times a year, and each flowering period is relatively long, from June to October throughout the year. Therefore, when Bougainvillea grows flower buds, the pot soil should be kept moist and never lack water .

From the time when the bougainvillea buds appear until they bloom, it needs a lot of water. If the soil in the pot is dry and lacks water, the buds will shrivel and fall off.

Therefore, after the buds of Bougainvillea appear, the potting soil should be kept "moist but not wet". This will help the buds grow full and strong, and the flowers will be brighter.

But it is important to note that when watering bougainvillea, do not spray water on the flower buds, otherwise it will easily cause the buds to fall off. Just water the soil in the pot thoroughly.

How to water bougainvillea during its flowering period to extend its flowering period

When the bougainvillea flowers are in full bloom, the soil in the pot must not be allowed to lack water. At this time, you can adopt the method of "passing water" to avoid water accumulation in the pot soil or alkaline soil. Do not water heavily, just keep the soil in the pot moist.

This can ensure that the flowers have the water they need to bloom without causing soil waterlogging and root rot, thus extending their flowering period .

However, flower lovers need to note that if you want Bougainvillea to bloom 3 to 4 times in a year, you need to shorten the flowering period.

Let it bloom for 40 to 50 days each time, then cut off all the flowers, loosen the soil in the pot, and then "withhold water" to promote flowering .

The method of withholding water to promote flowering is : stop watering for 3 to 5 days, let the soil in the pot completely dry out, and when the leaves begin to change color and wilt, water them in small amounts, and then stop watering for a few days. Repeat this 2 to 3 times, the top growth will be inhibited, and bougainvillea will form flower buds.

When the top turns red, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and keep it moist. If you care for the bougainvillea in this way, it will only take 40 to 45 days from cutting off the first batch of flowers to the next blooming, and it will be in full bloom again.
