How to Identify Melons

1. Blades

The leaves of melon are nearly round or kidney-shaped, thick papery, about 8-15 cm long and wide, rough on the surface with white rough hairs, and dense rough hairs along the veins on the back. The leaf margins are undivided or divided into 3-7 shallow lobes, the lobes are obtuse at the tip, truncated at the base or with semicircular notches, and have palm-like veins.

2. Flowers

Melon flowers are unisexual, male flowers: several grow in leaf axils, pedicels are relatively slender, and the corolla is yellow in color. Female flowers: solitary, with rough pedicels and oblong ovary.

3. Fruit

There are many varieties of melons, and the shape of the fruit varies depending on the variety. It is usually spherical or oblong, with a smooth skin and longitudinal grooves or spots. The flesh is white, yellow or green, very sweet and delicious. The seeds are yellow-white or dirty white, oblong or oval, with a smooth surface.
