How to plant chives in all seasons and when is the best season to plant them?

Suitable planting time for all-season chives

Four-season chives can be planted in all seasons. There are two methods for planting. The rhizome seedling method can be carried out in April-May or September-October under normal circumstances. The seed seedling method is usually planted in March-April, and can also be planted in September-October.

Four-season chive planting methods and key points

1. Land preparation and fertilization

For growing all-season chives, choose a place with sufficient sunlight, deep and fertile sandy loam. Apply enough basal fertilizer before planting. You can use farm-grown soil and a small amount of superphosphate as basal fertilizer. When preparing the land, you need to completely break up and rake the soil to ensure that the soil is fine, the furrows are flat, and the fertilizer is evenly applied . In winter, you can cover the ground with a layer of plastic film to increase the ground temperature, so that you can harvest an extra crop of all-season chives.

Choose the best all-season onion seedlings. After they germinate, sow the seeds on the soil surface, then cover them with about 1 to 2 cm of grass and wait for them to germinate. After 4 to 5 weeks of germination, you can transplant and plant them.

Key points for managing four-season chives

The root system of allium is shallow, with weak absorption capacity. It is not tolerant to concentrated fertilizers, drought or waterlogging. It is recommended to water it frequently and do a good job of drainage after rain. After the seedlings have grown to a certain size, it is necessary to apply organic fertilizer in time, preferably phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, in order to maintain a good crop.
