How to water flowers correctly (the secret to preventing flowers from dying without watering them for a long time)

Learn how to water flowers scientifically

1) Water requirements of flowers

When watering potted flowers and plants at home, you must first understand the natural water requirements of different flowers and plants ; some flowers and plants like moisture and are neither drought-resistant nor waterlogged; most flowers and plants belong to this category.

This kind of flowers and plants should usually keep the pot soil moist, but not waterlogged for a long time. Water when the surface of the pot soil is dry. However, some flowers and plants have strong drought resistance and can tolerate long-term water shortage.

Cacti and succulent plants belong to this category. They should be watered less often. It is better to let the soil in the pot be a little dry than to let it be waterlogged, otherwise it will easily cause the roots of the flowers and plants to rot and die.

2) Water when the soil is dry and when it is wet

"See dry" means: the surface of the soil in the pot is already dry. If you touch it with your finger, you will see moist soil about 2 to 3 centimeters away. Then you can water it. "See wet" means: when watering, the standard is that water flows out from the bottom of the pot, which means there is enough water.

Flower lovers should be reminded that if some soils are completely dry, such as peat soil and leaf mold, the water poured in will be absorbed slowly. Although water will flow out of the holes at the bottom of the flowerpot, it does not mean that the soil has been watered thoroughly.

In this case, it is best to water using the immersion method.

What are the precautions for watering flowers and plants?

1) Water deduction

When new seedlings are potted up, large seedlings are moved upside down, or the pots are changed, the root systems of flowers and plants will be damaged.

Therefore, it is advisable to use moist soil for potting, and do not water thoroughly within 5 to 48 hours after planting. This can speed up the healing of root wounds of flowers and plants, promote rapid recovery of plants, and prevent root rot, yellowing and falling leaves, and plant shrinkage and deformation.

2) Road water

When using glazed jars, porcelain pots, purple clay pots, and plastic pots to plant flowers and plants, in order to prevent waterlogging, a 2-3 cm thick drainage layer should be laid at the bottom of the pot so that excess water in the pot can be discharged at any time.

In the hot summer and autumn seasons, large amounts of water should be released from the bottom holes every 3 to 4 days. This can prevent the soil from becoming waterlogged and rotting, and from becoming alkaline and yellow.
