How to grow medal flowers

Planting of Medal Flower

Potted medallion flowers are usually planted in 12-15 cm pots, and the potting soil can be a substrate mixed with equal amounts of leaf mold, manure soil and coarse sand. When the seedlings grow to 4-5 pieces, they can be potted.

Key points for potted medallion flowers

Potted medallion flowers are grown in 10 to 16 cm pots with well-drained media. The soil in the pots is kept dry and watered only after the soil is dry. The medal flower should be watered in the morning to keep the leaves dry at night and prevent diseases. Too much water will cause the plant to grow too tall, while too dry a temperature will cause premature flowering and the leaves will easily be burned under strong light.

Watering tips for medal flowers

Keep the soil moderately moist during growing season.

Temperature and light of medal flower

With sufficient light and suitable temperature conditions, it can bloom continuously. If you don't keep seeds, cutting off the remaining flowers after they fade will help form more buds and produce more flowers.

Key points for fertilizing medal flowers

Fertilize once every half a month or so, using Huiyou 15-15-30 potted flower fertilizer or decomposed cake fertilizer water.

Pest and disease control of medal flower

Leaf spot disease is common and can be treated by spraying with 1000 times diluted 25% carbendazim wettable powder.

The insect pests include red spider mites and aphids. Aphids can be killed by spraying 1000 times diluted 2.5% dernetic acid emulsifiable concentrate, and red spider mites can be killed by spraying 1500 times diluted 40% oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrate.

Propagation of Medal Flower

Medal flowers are usually propagated by sowing, division and cuttings.

Sowing can be done in spring in April or autumn in September. The suitable temperature for germination is 16-20℃. It will germinate 15-25 days after sowing. The first transplanting is carried out when the seedlings grow a pair of true leaves.

The division of the Medal Flower is usually done before the leaf clusters sprout in March or April. The overwintering mother plant is dug out and cut longitudinally from the root neck of the plant cluster with a sharp knife. Each division has a bud and root system and can be directly potted.

The cutting propagation of medallion flower can be carried out in spring and autumn. Cut the buds with stem nodes, leaving the top 2 leaves, insert them into the sand bed, keep the substrate moist, and under the temperature of 20-25℃, roots will grow 20-25 days after insertion. If the cuttings are treated with 0.1% indolebutyric acid for 1-2 seconds, rooting will be faster.
