Can roses be propagated by cuttings?

Roses can be propagated by cuttings , so the branches can be kept alive. However, you should choose fresh branches, otherwise it will affect the survival rate of the cuttings.

Generally, roses should be properly treated and provided with a suitable environment before cuttings, which is more conducive to their rooting and germination.

The rose branches will grow new roots about a month after cuttings , but you must master reasonable maintenance methods after cuttings so that the roots will take root faster.

When is the right time to take cuttings of roses?

The time for rose cuttings is quite special. It can be propagated by cuttings in spring and summer, and the most important thing is that it can also be propagated by cuttings in late winter.

The time for cuttings in spring is from February to March, in summer it is from July to August, and in winter it is from December to January in late winter and early spring .

How to get a high survival rate of rose cuttings

Step 1: Soil disinfection

Roses propagated by cuttings prefer loose, breathable and water-permeable soil . It is best to add some humus soil into it, which will increase the survival rate of the cuttings.

Use peat soil, sandy soil, add a portion of perlite and carbonized rice husks, preferably mix them evenly in a ratio of 3:3:2:2, and then spray some diluted potassium permanganate and methyl thiophanate liquid in it for disinfection.

Step 2: Select buds

Selecting cuttings is the most important step in the process of cutting roses. In spring, choose two-year-old strong cuttings, in summer, choose tender cuttings grown this year, and in winter, choose strong cuttings grown this year.

Moreover, when choosing branches for cuttings, it is best to cut the lower end of the branch into a duck-billed wedge shape, and then remove all the leaves on the branch.

Step 3: Processing buds

Rose buds need to be processed before cuttings. You can soak the cuttings in diluted rooting water for 12 hours .

If you feel that the time is too long, you can also dip the lower end of the flower branch in rooting hormone, indolebutyric acid, naphthylacetic acid and ABT respectively. After dipping, the rooting speed will be much faster.

Step 4: Cutting operation

Insert the processed rose stem into a potato, then bury the potato in the prepared soil, cover it with soil, and compact the soil with your hands.

After the cuttings are completed, add an appropriate amount of water and place them in a cool environment, then you can wait for the flower branches to slowly sprout and take root.
