How to grow bougainvillea

How to grow bougainvillea

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: Bougainvillea is not very demanding on the soil. It is best to choose loose and well-drained soil.

2. Watering: Water twice a day in summer. Reduce watering after the flowers fade. Excessive watering will cause leaves to fall or root rot. Watering should also be controlled in winter. In summer, you need to increase the amount of watering. If there is a lack of water, leaves will fall and normal growth or flowering will be affected.

3. Fertilization: Apply nitrogen fertilizer once every 10-15 days after the weather warms up, apply cake fertilizer water once a week during the growth period, apply phosphorus fertilizer appropriately during the flowering period, and stop fertilizing when the temperature is low in winter.

4. Light: Bougainvillea likes sunlight. If there is insufficient light, its growth will weaken and its flowering will be affected. In winter, it is best to place it in a place with sufficient light and give it more than 8 hours of light a day, otherwise it will easily fall leaves.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Cutting propagation: Cut off the healthy branches grown that year, insert them into the substrate, expose the branches with leaves, cover them with film after watering, and place them in a position where scattered light can reach.

2. High-voltage propagation: Cut the bark of the high-voltage branches two inches above the bifurcation of the mother plant, wrap them with moist soil and tie them tightly with a plastic bag. Roots will grow in a month.

3. Common pests and diseases

Common diseases and pests include aphids, dieback disease, etc. After discovery, they should be sprayed with pesticides such as dimethoate or thiophanate in time. In normal times, the soil should be loosened and weeded appropriately, ventilation should be increased, and diseased leaves and branches should be removed to reduce the spread of the source of the disease.
