Maintenance of Kalanchoe during flowering

After entering April, most Kalanchoe have reached their peak flowering period. Kalanchoe of various colors have bloomed one after another, competing with each other for beauty, which is very attractive. During the flowering period of Kalanchoe, in order to extend its viewing period, you should pay attention to the following aspects of maintenance.

Don't water too frequently during the flowering period

Kalanchoe is a relatively drought-resistant plant. When watering, you can follow the principle of not watering when the soil is not dry and watering when the soil is dry. When the plant enters the flowering period, many flower lovers worry about water shortage, so they water it frequently, causing the pot soil to be too moist, causing the flowers to wither prematurely.

Therefore, do not water the Kalanchoe too frequently during its flowering period. Just make sure the soil in the pot is slightly moist. It is not too late to water it again after the soil in the pot is dry .

Do not fertilize during flowering period

Before the buds of Kalanchoe are formed, in order to promote the plant to bloom as soon as possible, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are usually added 1 to 2 times in advance. When the Kalanchoe enters the flowering period and the flowers bloom, fertilization should be stopped .

If you fertilize during the flowering period of Kalanchoe, it is easy to cause fertilizer damage and shorten the flowering period. Fertilization can be done after the flowering period is completely over, and then pruning is done to facilitate the plant's recovery.

After flowering, reduce the light

In order to make the longevity flower bloom, it is usually ensured that it has sufficient sunlight. However, if it continues to receive sufficient sunlight after all the buds are in full bloom, the flowers will wither faster and the flowering period will be shortened .

Therefore, after the Kalanchoe potted plant blooms, you can reduce the light appropriately and move the potted plant to a diffuse light environment, so that its flowering period can be extended accordingly.

Maintenance and management of Kalanchoe after flowering

① Prune the remaining flowers

After the Kalanchoe blooms, it needs to be pruned, withered flowers cut off in time, dead branches and yellow leaves removed, and overly messy branches and leaves thinned out.

For branches that grow too long, you can top them to reduce excessive nutrient consumption and keep the plants short and stylish. If the temperature in spring is suitable, the pruned branches can be simply pruned and then propagated by cuttings, which can have a high survival rate.

②Supplement nutrients

About a week after pruning, you can start to supplement nutrients for the Kalanchoe. During maintenance and management, we can apply compound fertilizer or fermented cake fertilizer water every half a month to help the plant resume growth and make the branches and leaves grow luxuriantly.

③ Dormant period

After the Kalanchoe blooms, summer will soon arrive. When the temperature is above 32°C, the plant will enter a short dormant period. During this stage, it is necessary to cool down and protect from the sun, avoid excessive moisture in the pot soil, and stop fertilizing to avoid damage to the plant.
