How to plant succulents bought online in winter (Steps to repot succulents bought online)

After getting the succulent, let it adapt to the

No matter what channel we buy succulents from, we don’t know what the environment they are in is like before we buy them. Especially for succulents purchased online, they have traveled a long distance for several days.

Especially in winter, the temperature is relatively high for a long time, and coupled with express transportation, the temperature of the areas it passes through may vary greatly, and it may be dying when it arrives.

If you pot it immediately, it is likely to cause unexpected problems such as stunted seedlings because it cannot adapt to the new environment immediately. So after buying succulents, we might as well hold back our excitement. Let it sit for a day or two in a well-ventilated environment with a temperature not lower than 0℃ to adapt to the new environment first.

Before planting succulents, remove dead leaves and trim roots

After the succulent has been left to stand for a day or two, we still don't need to rush to put it in the pot. Instead, we should first take care of its "personal hygiene" and pick off all the broken, damaged and dead leaves it has.

Then, we need to cut off all the withered and necrotic roots, as well as the overly messy capillary roots, and finally dilute the Flower Guardian with water in a ratio of 1:200 to wash the roots of the succulent.

After killing the eggs or germs that may be hidden in the root system, keep the cleaned succulents in a place not lower than 0℃. Pay attention to good ventilation and let the roots stand until the wounds caused by leaf removal and root pruning are dry and shrink.

Don't rush to water the succulents after they are potted

When the roots of succulents are drying, we should not sit idle. Instead, put the Flower Protector solution used to wash the roots into a spray bottle and spray the prepared potting soil to keep the soil moist but not wet. After the wounds of the succulents are dry, they can be potted.

There are two purposes for doing this: first, the Flower Protector solution can kill possible pathogens or insect eggs hidden in the potting soil; second, using moist soil in pots can provide some moisture to induce the succulents to take root, so there is no need to water them immediately after potting, thus avoiding the risk of root rot and waterlogging of the succulents as soon as they are potted.

During the acclimatization period of succulent plants, it is necessary to ensure temperature and ventilation

After potting the succulent, it is best to place it in a place with a temperature not lower than 15℃ so that the succulent can grow new roots as soon as possible. The simplest way is to place it indoors, or use a plastic shed to keep it warm. However, while keeping it warm, you must also pay attention to frequent ventilation, and when keeping warm indoors, be sure to avoid places with high heat such as radiators and floor heating.

After the succulent plants are acclimated to the pot, pay attention to less watering and more light

The time it takes for succulents to adapt to the pot varies depending on the variety and environment. Generally, if the temperature is suitable, it can adapt to the pot in 5 to 7 days at the fastest . The sign of successful adaptation is that the leaves stretch and become stiff, the heart of the leaves turns slightly white, and you can feel the roots grasping the pot soil when you touch it gently.

At this time, the new roots of the succulents have sprouted. We need to find a sunny and warm noon, water it thoroughly, and then slowly return to normal maintenance.
