How to plant ginkgo and how to germinate ginkgo seeds

How to plant ginkgo and how to germinate ginkgo seeds

1. Planting time

Ginkgo is usually planted in winter or spring. Because the seeds are buried in the soil, they are not easily affected by low temperatures and will take root and sprout when the temperature rises in the spring. The seedlings of this plant cannot tolerate high temperatures. If they are sown in summer, they can easily be damaged during the seedling stage and may not be able to resume growth in autumn.

2. How to germinate

In order to ensure that the seeds can germinate smoothly, germination is often required before sowing. Select seeds with fuller grains and soak them in warm water for 2-3 days, changing the water once a day. Then take it out and put it on plastic paper, and spray it with water once in the morning or evening to keep it moist. The germination is completed in about a week.

3. Sowing

Generally, ginkgo should be sown in places with deeper soil, with a depth of at least 1 meter. At the same time, ensure good light and ventilation, and avoid planting in places such as valley bottoms. The planting density should not be too high to ensure that each tree has sufficient growing space. Bury the seeds with the tender sprouts facing downwards in the soil. Cover them with a layer of straw mat to keep them warm and moist. They will sprout after 15 days.

4. Seedling cultivation method

When the ginkgo seedling grows two true leaves, you need to water it a little to promote its development. Usually, you need to ensure that there is sufficient light so that the leaves can expand better. In addition, proper fertilization can provide nutrients and promote its growth. When applying fertilizer, be sure to apply it in thin layers and frequently. Seedlings are afraid of concentrated fertilizers, and poor control of the amount of fertilizer may cause burns.
