When is the best time to transplant blueberries?

Blueberries are a favorite fruit for many people. They are rich in nutrients and have a growing demand. Now blueberries are grown in many areas. Proper transplanting during the growth process is conducive to the growth and development of the root system and can also promote flowering and fruiting.

Blueberry transplanting time

Blueberries can be transplanted in spring and autumn , from February to March in spring and around November in autumn . However, in order to effectively increase the survival rate, it is recommended to transplant in spring , when the temperature is higher, which is conducive to the rooting and germination of blueberry seedlings and effectively promotes growth. If transplanted in autumn, it is easy to be damaged by winter frost.

Blueberry Transplanting Method

1. Cultivate strong seedlings

Blueberries like soft, breathable, organic and fertile soil , so peat soil is a good choice. Dig a round hole about 60 cm wide and 40 cm deep in the planting area, add pine needle soil and original soil and mix well. Then, when digging the saplings, try to keep the roots intact , put them into the prepared hole, tamp the backfill soil firmly, and fill it with water.

2. Transplanting method

Take the seedling out of the pot, gently pry open the bottom of the root system with your hands to form a cross-shaped opening, then take out the soil in the center and straighten the roots.

When planting seedlings, spread the roots in the hole, let the pine forest humus soil or acidic peat soil filled in the hole surround the roots of the seedlings, gently lift the seedlings upwards, then cover the soil about 15 cm above the ground, straighten the seedlings and compact the soil.

Management of blueberries after transplanting

After planting, you can add a small amount of farmyard manure . Blueberry seedlings require less water. If the moisture content in the soil is high, it must be drained in time . If the soil is dry, it must be irrigated in time, but not too much.

Whether you are planting large or small seedlings, the main focus should be on tree care in the early stage. Fruit can only be produced two years after planting. Attention should be paid to fruit thinning to prevent excessive fruit hanging and excessive nutrient consumption. Weeding, water and fertilizer management, and pruning should be done in time .
