The correct way to water Mo Lan in winter

The correct way to water Mo Lan in winter

Mo Lan is one of the five traditional orchids in China and has a long history of cultivation and appreciation in China. Because its flowering period usually blooms around the Spring Festival, it is also called "New Year's Orchid." So how do we water Mo Lan in this winter season? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Watering time

The best time to water in winter is at noon on a sunny day, when the temperature is higher, which can reduce stimulation to the root system and promote water absorption.

2. Watering frequency

In winter, the growth rate of Mo Lan slows down and the water requirement decreases. Generally, it should be watered once every 5-7 days, or once every 3-5 days.

3. Water quality selection

Rainwater or snow water is the first choice for watering Mo Lan, because these water sources are natural and rich in nutrients, which is conducive to the growth of Mo Lan. If you use tap water to water the Mo Orchid, you need to expose the tap water to the sun for a day to eliminate chlorine and avoid adverse effects on the Mo Orchid.

4. Control the amount of water

In winter, watering should be moderate, just keep the soil in the pot slightly moist, and avoid water accumulation to prevent frostbite on the plants.

5. Pay attention to water temperature

Before watering in winter, you should collect water in advance and wait until the water temperature is close to the soil temperature before watering to avoid sudden use of cold water that may cause frostbite to the roots.

6. Maintain air humidity

In addition to watering, the air humidity should be kept above 50% in winter. You can spray moisture to prevent the leaves from darkening or the tips of the leaves from turning yellow.

7. Notes

(1) Follow the principle of watering thoroughly when the soil is dry. Do not water halfway or one side. Turn the flower pot several times as much as possible to ensure that the soil is completely moist.

(2) When watering, water should be poured from the edge of the pot to allow the water to flow naturally into the roots to reduce root rot.

(3) On sunny days when the temperature is high, you can open the windows to allow air circulation to reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases.

In general, watering Mo Lan in winter is very particular, and you need to master key information such as watering amount, watering time, water quality and water temperature. Proper watering will help the Mo Lan stay healthy during the winter.
